Families for Safe Water Coalition formed in 2007 after members of Citizens for Safe Water and the Alliance for Democracy - Portland Chapter learned that the Tualatin Valley Water District Board was moving ahead with plans to move from accessing the Bull Run source of drinking water to accessing the Willamette River as a principle source of water.
The Willamette River is one of the 10 most endangered rivers in the United States.
Portland Bull Run water is a natural, pristine source of water from a federally protected watershed, requiring almost no treatment.
WHY WOULD WE WANT TO DRINK FROM THE WILLAMETTE?
Please contribute to the campaign.

Familes for Safe Water Coalition begin initiative campaign
Families for SafeWater Coalition has begun an initiative campaign in the Tualatin Valley Water District in October, 2007.
In 2001, the Tualatin Valley Water District was faced with an initiative which would have required a vote before the District could use water from the Willamette River. The initiative petition was abandoned when the TVWD board enacted an ordinance specifiying the same condition.
However, since that time, the board has been spending ratepayer money to begin the process of going to the Willamette. Now they say that conditions have changed and that they may rescind the ordinance.
In self-defense, Families for Safe Water Coalition has begun an initiative petition drive which would require TVWD to have voter approval before it expends ANY funds which would move the district toward the use of the Willamette River water for drinking.
