Victory for Families for Safe Water Coaliton.....
but we must keep working!

Because of the campaign waged by Families for Safe Water Coalition, the Tualatin Valley Water District Board on 12-19-07 passed a resolution (see below) stating that while the TVWD will continue looking at multipe sources of water, the $12.5 million, which had been approved for efforts to draw water from the Willamette River, would not " make any future capital expenditures in the Willamette Water Supply" at this time.

Please note the words "at this time," which is emphasized in #3.   This clarifies that the Willamette water supply is still waiting in the wings! And we must continue our work.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

1.  The Board approves the continuation of the District’s policy to pursue multiple sources of water supply and continue to secure water supply from the City of Portland and the Joint Water Commission.

2.  The Board approves the District’s participation in the Tualatin Basin Water Supply Project.


3.  The Board of Commissioners approves dedicating the entire $12.5 million in the Water Supply Improvement Project listed in the adopted 07-09 Biennium Capital Improvement Plan for use on the Tualatin Basin Water Supply Project and the District     at this time     will not make any future capital expenditures in the Willamette Water Supply.   (emphasis added)
